How can I rid of excess airway phlegm?

I had a mild cold last week, yellow (viral) phlegm with that distinctive "cold" taste, and a cough, which only lasted a day. I still have tons of now white phlegm which is lined on my airways (more than normal), and it causes an annoying wheeze, which is much worse with shallow breathing and coughing. If I purposely cough hard enough, I can produce the white mucus small amounts at a time, which helps short term, but always returns. I've had this issue numerous times in the past, this time of year, and it always lingers after the cold is gone. I never could get a straight answer from doctors other than "quit smoking" or "its just airway restriction" ... I can and will live with it until it clears up on its own, as always, but its so annoying.... Is there any way to "widen" my airways and bronchials? Or can I do something to rid of any excess white mucus in the old pipes? Expectorants don't work for it, not mucinex, not nothin....

Hot water with honey can help with phlegm, as can some herb teas. Stay hydrated. Also, milk products can make phlegm thicker, although they don't produce phlegm, as popularly believed.

Feeling a small marijuana high long time after smoking it for the first time, Normal?

Hey I smoked weed for the first time back on December 4th 2009 and I got super duper high my first time. I smoked from a water bong and took 3 hits from it not knowing how long it takes for it to actually kick in. I was super unhealthy before I smoked. Like I was 16 and I never got any sleep and I stood inside playing video games all day. I felt a hint of dizzyness months after the 3 days I smoked. I still feel it actually, but not as much. I get scared randomly sometimes and the first month I had 3 panic attacks. It seems to lessen as I get more sleep. But does anyone know the reason this happened? Is this just what stoners go through after they stop smoking? Answers are very much appreciated!

It's highly doubtful that the weed caused your problems... One night of smoking has virtually no chance or causing long-term ailments. If this persists, I would see a doctor, but until then I would recommend that you get more sleep if that helps.

Has anyone tried Champix (quit-smoking pill)?

I gave up easily in January for 9 weeks before the stress hit and picked up the ciggies again. Started Champix again and hoping to quit for good this time. I went a little nuts last time but am not sure if it was a side effect of the drug or an effect of handling stress without my little nicotine friends. Has anyone else any experience to share about Champix?

I have not tried Champix personally as I am not a smoker, but one of my dad's friend and his wife both tried to quit with Champix at the same time (they thought it would be easier together) but they ended up yelling at each other and at other persons as they became aggressive following the use of Champix. They were really nice persons but really stressed out, and they had adverse effects when they used Champix.

They spoke to their doctor who confirmed Champix could do this (aggressive, depressive mood, etc.) and at the time, there was an advisory on Health Canada's website (they talked about it on TV) which you might want to check out (see link in the reference/source box) to find out more about the possible adverse effects of Champix.

I would say not to worry too much if you have a little more mood swings or aggressivity as quitting is really stressing out your body and the stress and medication are exacerbating the symptoms, but if you are really concerned, you might want to get advice from or talk to your prescribing/family doctor or pharmacist.
